Apollo 440 Apollo Four Forty
also known as:
Apollo 440, @440, Stealth Sonic Orchestra, The Boot Room Boyz *

The band was formed in 1990 in Liverpool by Noko, brothers Howard and Trevor Gray and also James E Gardner. During the recording of their first album, Apollo 440 co-operated with two drummers: Cliff Hewitt and Simon Hoare. Besides Noko, Howard Devoto, Elizabeth Gray (Howard and Trevor's sister) and Dr Karl Leiker performed as vocalists. In 1993 James E Gardner left the band and one year later he moved to New Zealand, but he's still co-operating with the band from time to time. Those times, the trio moved from their hometown of Liverpool to the capital of popculture, London and nowadays they own their Apollo Control studio located in Islington. Through the work on their second album and the following tour, @440 family extended considerably. The role of a vocalist was given to Mary Mary, Harry K became a DJ, besides Cliff Hewitt, Kodish became a second drummer and Rej played bass guitar. During the recording of the second album, Apollo 440 invited many musicians to co-operation, among others Keith Holden (harmonica) and the vocalists: Ewan MacFarlane, Billy MacKenzie and Elizabeth Gray already known from the first album. During the recording of the third album Rej was replaced by Kenny Cougar.
